Support by the
Crédit Agricole group

NB: last update August 2025.

The Central and Eastern Europe International Desk of Crédit Agricole Group, based in Vienna, provides support to the Group's corporate clients in Ukraine for conducting their operations locally, particularly in terms of banking advice, account opening, and financing.

It relies on Crédit Agricole Bank Ukraine, which has been part of Crédit Agricole Group since 2006, following the acquisition of Index Bank. After the 2012 merger with CA-CIB Ukraine, Crédit Agricole Ukraine offers the products and services of a universal retail bank. CA Ukraine is among the strongest banks in Ukraine and is recognized as a reference bank in the agricultural and agri-food sectors, as well as in automotive financing. Equipment leasing is also offered.

For non-banking services, the International Desk provides support from local law firms or accounting firms and from its partners who are leaders in business internationalization.

General Information

Given the constantly evolving foreign exchange regulations, it is essential to gather thorough information before any export or financial operation involving Ukraine. See the paragraph above regarding currency transfers.

Means of Payment & Banking Specificities

Cash payment by SWIFT transfer before shipment is strongly recommended. Bank checks or checks issued by companies should be avoided. In any case, they are not used in Ukraine except sometimes for salary payments and certain other operations, or by foreign banks that issue checks in foreign currency payable outside of Ukraine. Most payments are made by transfer in local currency (Hryvnia). Promissory notes are not popular as a payment instrument in import-export activities in Ukraine due to domestic regulatory reasons.

Setting up credit guaranteed by Bpifrance (formerly "Coface," within the limits of available government envelopes), but also under war risk guarantee coverage, can also be considered. An irrevocable and confirmed documentary credit is currently not possible due to the war context.

Confirmation of documentary credits on Ukraine will be studied on a case-by-case basis depending on the counterparty, the duration of the commitment, and our group's availability in terms of country risk. Operations involving Ukraine are currently handled by advance payment.
