General Information

The Tunisian economy faces several challenges: the need to maintain a dynamic tourism activity, increase its export revenues, the stabilisation of its currency, the public and trade deficit, unemployment, and debt. The current political context offers little visibility in the medium and long term with a new change of 1st minister in August 2024.

Priority is thus given to local production and to projects and investments that create jobs and high added value.

One of the advantages of Tunisia is to have a diversified economy which offers many opportunities in different sectors including agri-food, mechanical, electronic and electrical sector, offshoring, plastics, textile, aeronautics, health sector (medicines and medical equipment).

For a company creation, it is important to determine the status to be retained according to the activity that is targeted (sale on the local market or export positioning). The support of a local law and accounting firm is recommended.

Means of Payment & Banking Specificities

To secure payment, we recommend the exporter to use a confirmed documentary credit payable on sight or at a very short payment period (30-60 days maximum).

For non-secure transactions, payment delays were noted.

The payment of a deposit is possible, subject to the issue of a deposit refund guarantee.
The issue of this guarantee is not required for the payment of an advance payment on the importation of products linked to production.

The best currency for invoicing exchanges is the Euro.
