The International Desk Africa, Maghreb, Middle East provides support to Crédit Agricole Group’s corporate clients, including account openings and local FCFA financing via a preferred bank in Gabon, the Gabonese Banking Union (UGB) belonging to the Attijariwafa Bank Group (Morocco).
General Information
Gabon is a member of the franc zone, via the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) whose issuing institution is the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). The CFA or XAF franc is pegged to the Euro with a fixed parity guaranteed by the French Treasury.
Gabon has important natural resources, particularly oil, of which it is the fifth largest producer in Africa. Since the military coup in August 2023 that ousted President Ali Bongo, the country's political situation has normalised with the election of a new President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
Non-oil sectors such as the mining sector (manganese), agri-food and timber remain important areas of development for the country's economy.
Means of Payment & Banking Specificities
We recommend the use of a confirmed documentary credit payable on demand or up to 60 days.
Late payments are common if transactions are not secure.
The best currency for invoicing trade remains the Euro.
